    67 weatherstrip glue

I know in the past all you judges were looking for a sloppy applied yellow glue about a 3/4 to a inch wide. a while back I read on here that a new theory is the glue was clear when first applied and then yellowed over time. what would you use today to please you picky judges

      Keith -

On the recommendation of someone on the forum, I have been using DAP Weldwood Contact Cement with excellent results. It is easy to apply, and control while you are assembling the weatherstrip to the car, and it has a yellowish appearance which is very similar to the original adhesive used.

I second that. It is what I'm planning to use. Availible at any hardware/lumber yard in quart cans. Paint it on with those elcheapo paint brushes. Cut the brush brissles back to about half their length. Paint both surfaces and let air dry 10 minutes and press the rubber in place. Make sure it is where you want it because there is no moving once contact is made.

I get using the contact cement. So the theory of the original glue being clear when new and yellowing over time. Has no merit

I wouldn't say it has "no merit" as it may very well be true. While the contact cement has an light yellowish tan color in the can, when you paint it on it is basically transparent and colorless. With time, it too will darken up. I suspect the stuff used on the cars when new was no different.
