I've been trying to remove the upper bearing from the steering column on my 1969. I read on another forum that it isn't removable and if the bearing is bad the entire housing needs to be replaced. Does anyone know whether this is right? Doc Rebuild sells an upper bearing on his website so I don't know whether there's some way to get it out.

Re: 1969 steering column upper bearing
I assume you have a standard (non-adjustable) steering column. The original bearing was a light press fit into the turn signal switch housing and there was also a thin lip on the housing that was then spun over to "permanently" hold the bearing in place. I don't know if the lip was 100% spun over or if it was just locally peaned over. If there are undisturbed sections you can try to pean those sections to hold the bearing in the housing. Otherwise, you may need to carefully grind away the entire lip in order to remove your original bearing. You can then carefully swab the housing bore with epoxy glue to hold the new bearing in place.
