Re: 65 forged steel vs cast
Am I correct in thinking that most front & rear susp. parts (front & rear sway bars ,spindles ,steering arms, strut rods , yokes ,etc. ) are forged steel , And that forged steel color may vary from gray to almost black in color . And most cast iron is more gray than black .
The front and rear sway bars, front and rear spindles, steering arms, strut rods, stub axles, transmission yoke and some flanges were forged steel. These do vary in color but, typically, only the sway bars and strut rods will sometimes be seen with a dark gray to black color. The other forged parts appear pretty much like cast iron.
The rear spindle supports are nodular cast iron. For 1965, the half shaft flanges were forged steel while the spindle flanges were nodular cast iron. The rear caliper brackets were nodular cast iron.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
