My L-46 valve covers have been restored/painted so I take a deduction when getting judged. Are the new GM Restoration L-46/LT-1 valve covers close in appearance to originals or would I still receive a deduction for them being to shiny? Is there a better alternative?

Mike,
The last ones I saw that I knew were new GM were too shiny, but that was a couple of years ago. I do not know if they have changed or not. There are some folks who "restore" the aluminum rocker covers without paint, but all of them, IMO, do not capture the original finish.

The original 1969 L-46 valve covers were not polished. The finish was similar to the 63-67 aluminum valve covers. A few years after their introduction, all of these covers were polished and remained this way until they were finally discontinued by GM several years ago. I fully expect that the current reproductions are polished.
