Where to buy NCRS correct Convertible top for 66 Corvette
Where to buy NCRS correct Convertible top for 66 Corvette
I'm looking to buy a NCRS correct convertible top for my 66 corvette. I'm just replacing the fabric and probably rubber gaskets. I want to make sure it will meet all NCRS guide lines. What are the best vendors ?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

The beginning point is ordering the John Kennedy top from AK. You will want to make sure that the front windlace has about 3 to 4 extra inches of material on each end so that it can be properly tucked in. Be sure to ask for the 3/8" rope instead of the fat 1/2" rope. Also, you'll need to talk with your installer and make sure that he correctly installs the front windlace. As for the rear spears, it's best to have them 5-1/2" from seam to screw head.
I've noticed lately on the judging field that C2 convertible owners have really improved the installation and appearance of convertible tops-no doubt due to our judging schools. There was a time at regionals when, at the most, only one C2 convertible top had the front windlace properly installed. Just two weeks ago at the Rochester regional, I noticed that there were several convertibles that had correctly installed tops.
Good luck.

Steve,
Just a little insight to buying a "correct" convertible top for your '66. The best you will probabrly be able to do to buy a John Kennedy patten covertible top kit that was cut using John Kennedy's pattern from Al Knoch Interiors. You will have to ask for it by name. Be sure you get the correct 3/8" diamenter front wind lace, maybe buy 2 or 3 windlaces as the top installers sometime go through 1 or 2 before they get it right. Unless you plan on installing it yourself, you will then have to find someone in your area or the people at Al Knoch to install it the correct way being sure that the windlace is tucked back under the side edges of the top.
What happened to me at the North Central Regional meet a few weeks ago is that I received a 2 point deduct because the top material grain pattern was not correct per the exterior judges. As far as I know this is the only C2 Corvette convertible top material available.
I hope this helps.
