    Coffman Corvettes 1960

Has anyone used Coffman Corvettes to install a softop onto your frame using their jig? I am considering having them install my 1960 soft top. They told me they would check all of my frame for proper alignment, straightness, etc and put it in their jig and install soft top. One concern is that, how do I know my car will fit their jig. If you know what I mean. There are so many little fitment issues of these Old cars.
    Thanks

Dick, I did use Coffman but didn't have them put a new top on a frame I provided because when I picked up my '61, the previous owners had sold off the soft top years ago due to all the racing they were involved in. After finding out the local 'talent' upholsterers wanted over a grand just for labor once I dug up a top and parts, I decided to check out Coffman because I heard they offered new frames and had a 'buck' to use when fitting a top. So, I ordered up a new complete top and honestly, all it took was to take it out of the box, drop it into place and by myself, I had it adjusted fairly well in less than a half hour. The only question that Clint Coffman had for me up front was whether my doors and windows were well adjusted to the hardtop which they were.

Dick They don't use a jig they use actual car bodies cut in front of the windshield and at the trunk. Although I never had them install a top I have taken my 62 to them and Clint was most helpful in fixing a problem I had with my top sealing at the windshield. He spent about 30 minutes with me and my car and then gave me a tour of his place. The man is a real asset to the hobby.

        Thanks for the replies.
I agree with the statements of Clint being a great guy. Very helpful. I just needed to hear it from a previous customer.
        Thanks

I just had a friend get a '64 top done by them . They did a great job, doing it on thier jig, i honestly told my friend not to do it that way. I just couldn't see it fitting correctly with out doing it on the car. They proved me wrong it looks very nice!

I've heard the same "fairy tale" for years. However, keep this in mind: the original soft tops installed at St. Louis were installed on the soft top frame on some sort of a jig at the supplier. They were NEVER installed on the actual car or, even, another similar car. When the soft top assembly was installed at St. Louis they all fit just fine.

Once-upon-a-time one could buy those very same soft top assemblies from GM in SERVICE. Then, one could take it home, install it on the car, and everything would fit just fine.
