With the body on the frame can I remove the front half of the rearend without removing the spring and rear crossmember. if not any easy and safe way to remove the spring / crossmember /rear as one unit ??? thanks

In answer to your question. Yes, it is possible to remove the front of the rear end leaving the rear cover and spring in place. I've acomplished this many times and it seems simple to me to do it this way.
The task is installing the heavy rear and can be accomplished by cutting off some long bolt heads and use two of them as guides when trying to get the heavy rear aligned.
