    Tack Drive Distributer Rebuild

I've read the articles and poured over old posts and have decided to do this myself. My distributor seems to be working okay, but I'm sure it could use a tear down and clean up after 48 years of hard labor. My question has to do with the upper and lower bushing. I contacted my machine shop about line reaming new bushings and it just happens that they do this service for one of the larger Corvette restoration shops in my area. Good news. Now the question is where do I get the bushings? Paragon has bushings but my guess is that they are sized such that reaming isn't necessary, kind of a "one size fits all" solution. I'd rather bring the shaft to the shop and have it checked for round, make whatever correction is necessary/possible, then line ream the bearings to match.

I'd start by trying to determine if it really needs new bushings or no. Most don't, and the installation process is a pain. "If it ain't broke, Don't fix it"

Yup. A snap gauge and a micrometer is all it takes.

        Bill,

Yes, Paragon has the correct bushings but you will need to have them reemed by your machine shop. Consider yourself lucky to have access to a machine shop with this ability. Not every machine shop has the necessary hardware to accomplish the task correctly.

They're available from BWD, but I would think if the shop does the work, they can get the bushings.

If the shaft has virtually no side play, they don't need to be replaced.
