Alternator Pulley Part Number for 454

Hello I have tried and looked in the judging manual. Even opened up the assembly manual and can't locate
    what I need to know.

Anyone know what the part number would is for an original 1971 454 LS5 pulley for an 1100543 alternator
in a car that HAS power steering and does NOT have A/C?

    Thank you.

It looks like I could get an aftermarket one for the alternator but I do not know if this is even judged?
It would not have the numbers on it. I checked the judging guide and it says 1970 cars did not
typically have numbers stamped on them. How about 1971?

Whoa stop the clock! Does this mean this pulley would totally work? It is a big block pulley. So I am told. No numbers are on it.
No numbers on it. It can be taken off and put on the one I want. How do I know for certain it
is for a power steering car with no A/C? Thanks.

This pulley APPEARS correct. If it's about 3-5/8" OD, it is correct. The black paint, though, is DEFINITELY NOT correct. It should be zinc plated.

The original pulley was GM #3829193. This pulley was discontinued in 1973 and replaced by GM #3871242, a virtually identical pulley. In general, these pulleys do not have part numbers embossed on them.

The 3829193 pulley was originally used on 63-64 Corvettes (F.I., Sp. H/Per.)(exc. C.A.C.). The one that I once owned was stamped "3829193 BF" (all surfaces were machined).
The 3871242 pulley that I once owned was stamped "3871242 ASCAL 4" on the cast surface on the back side. Enclosed is an old drawing of mine.

It is late at night, so I may be a little fuzzy, but I thought big blocks with power steering has a more extended alternator pulley so that the belt would line up with the forward of the two groves in the power steering pump. See AIM UPC N40, sheet A8 for the 1971 belt routing. Marc's pictures and Dave's drawing look too short to me.

My 1972 Corvette Parts Catalog (Sept. 1971) lists GM pulley # 3871242 for 1969-1971 Corvette (P/S w/Sp. H/Per)(427,454) as well as certain 65-68 Corvettes and described as 3 5/8" O.D.
                  Pulley # 3883978 is listed for 1969-1972 Corvettes (P/S w/H/Per)(427,454) and 1966-1968 Corvettes (C.A.C. w/P/S)(427) and described as 3 3/64" O.D.

In this case, the parts catalogs are incorrect. For 1971, the GM #3829193 was the pulley used for LS-5 with N-40. The GM #3883978 was used for 1971 LS-5 with N-40 and C-60. A/C applications generally use a somewhat smaller OD alternator pulley.

The GM #3871242 replaced the 3829193 in January, 1973. I don't understand why a 9/71 edition of the P&A catalog would show it for the 1971 applications. However, the 2 pulleys are virtually identical anyway.

                        David,

I have a pulley that looks exactly like your 3829193 pulley picture but does not have a key way cut into the inner hole. Is this a reproduction or were some of these pulleys from GM made like that? It's condition looks like a original part.

I scored a nice 1100543 alternator after a long search. But the restorer put a small block pulley on it. I needed a big block one. I found a #3829193. Part #3871242 came later. Since they are virtually identical I could go with either one but was able to get the #3829193 which is correct. The one in the picture was a pulley I could have purchased but the black is not correct so I passed on that one but the right one is purchased and will be installed. It will be nice to have the 1100543 under the hood. Thanks for the replies here.

Your 3829193 pulley is probably original as here is why. Back in the 1980's I owned an early 1963 SWC (vin #1450). The pulley used on the base 1963 engine is GM # 1958095. I also found this same pulley on 1963-1965 Chevrolet truck in various salvage yards. The pulleys of the 1965 Chev. trucks were the same except that there was not any keyway. My 1966 Chevrolet Chev. parts catalog listed the same 1958095 pulley. Below is my drawing from the 1980's.
