Looking to purchase a C2 64 to 66 looking for someone to discuss fakes vs original

Hi, looking for someone that would be interested in discussing the points to check when purchasing a C2 convertible, what is ok as far as components, frames and other items to check and look for. There seems to be a great deal of fake deals on the web and would like to try and avoid a problem in the future. I am new to this organization and hopefully there a person that can assist.

    thank you
    Dave

      Dave,

If you find a car you're interested in, I would recommend posting it here for comment. Plus hire a NCRS judge to look over the car in person for you.

        David,
Read all you can on the year model, and HP you are interested. Educate yourself on trim tags (fakes) and engine stampings and castings (also restamps and just plain fakes). A Corvette with all it's ORIGINAL pieces is far more valuable than a stamper or put together car. Base engine automatics tend to be lesser cost, more original, lower mileage. A knowledgeable buyer is a wise buyer........

A Corvette can be a wise or stupid investment dependent on the effort one puts into it. Not just from the stand point of money but also ENJOYMENT.

What everyone else said & buy every book from NCRS on the Corvettes you are looking at then read read read. Also go to a NCRS meet & look at the cars there. GOOD LUCK You are on the right track coming here first before buying. I have looked at many Corvettes for people AFTER they bought them & were sorry.

                David,

If you post the car here and tell us where the car is located, we can point you to a person to contact. Here's a page that has a few contacts:

David, There's no substitute for experience. Talk to and hire a knowledgeable NCRS member/judge to look at the car for you. The judging manuals only go so far and there is no discounting the intuitive instincts of an experienced NCRS judge. Most of them can spot a bad car from across the street. Good luck.
