Re: 1964 Brake Repair
I used a complete kit from "Praise Dyno Brake Company" of Royse City, Texas. Check web site @ same address (drop pany). I also replaced my J65's due to rusting of pad rivits. Their "Metrix Ceramic" shoes provide equal fade resistance @ all normal temps, yet better when cold by a long shot. I've had them on since 06. I used all new hardware from them incl. wheel cylinders. I tried using new replacement drums from Ecklers but they didn't line up right, so had to turn my originals a little bit to fit them right. Bottom line is I love them and have never looked back.
The last phone number I had for them is: (972) 636-2722.

Re: 1964 Brake Repair
Like Stu, I installed Praise Dyno brakes on my '64. Everything fit, the kit included everything you will need, and they worked fine but I did have an initial issue with leaks. I called them to discuss. The first thing they asked was "did I use silicone fluid", which I did. They claim that it is too thin and the result is leaks. Nothing was said about this in the instructions that came with the kit, so a word to the wise.Another thing to consider is whether you have the original drums on the car. If so they should have what looks like a spring around the outside of the drum at the 'step' in the surface. Mine had them on the front drums but the Judging Guide makes no mention of them so I got rid of them with the old drums. When I had the car judged I lost points because they were missing. Lessons: 1) the JG does not contain all information, and 2) don't throw anything away until after you have the car judged (if you plan on going trough the judging process).Doug- Top

Re: 1964 Brake Repair
I should include that I did have some trouble getting the correct star wheel adjusters from them. Not only are there right and left turn wheels, but some have more notches on them. I don't remember which worked best, but I finally got a matched set that worked proper. Also, it took a while to run them in - about 400 miles or so, and several adjustments before the auto adjusters worked right. I went forward and backward a number of times too. They still wok great and I'm about to change the fluid for the first time. I used DOT4 on advice from a native Floridian who has a lot of old cars with drum brakes.
