62 Rocker Panel Molding Retainer Holes

Does anyone know the position and size of the rocker panel molding retainer mounting holes for a 62? My mounting holes have been filled in, the original retainers are gone, and new retainers are too long and need re-drilling. Thanks...Ed

If I follow you, here are the hole locations and sizes on my '62 which has the rocker moldings removed for restoration:

First hole from front and last hole from rear are 13/64" diameter in a raised fiberglass portion that is 3/4" in diameter, and are 1-5/16" from edge of fender well, measured horizontallly from the front and the rear.

Along a horizontal line running between these two holes are four holes drilled for screws with drilled holes being 1/8" diameter with the first and last of the four holes being 9.5" from the front and rear holes mentioned above. Spacing between the four drilled holes is 14-5/8".

So, if my math is correct, total distance from center of first hole to center of last hole is 62-7/8". While it's hard to get a precise measurement, the distance of the horizontal line between the six holes above from the bottom edge of the fiberglass side panel is 3-9/16" - 3-5/8".

Thanks Larry. I'll get out my tape measure and check out your dimensions on my rocker panels. Do you know how long your retainers are? The ones I bought from Corvette America for 62 to 67 are 49 15/26th inches long...Ed

The retainer strips are stored away and at the moment wouldn't know where to look, but if run across them soon, I'll let you know.

But looking at the illustration in an old Paragon catalog I have, it shows the metal retainer strip to just extend beyond the total span of the four small screw holes I mentioned. The total distance between the four holes (14-5/8" x 3 spaces) is 43-7/8" so the 49+" length you have would extend beyond both of the outer screw holes about 2-1/2". That extra length would not seem to matter to me since the larger holes in each end of the rocker molding are 9-1/2" further out.

Original 62 retainers are 44 3/4" long and will be configured like the retainer on the right of this picture. The one in this picture is off my 63 and the one on the left is a replacment I bought a few years ago.

Still looking for another original for my 63.
