    C2 Exhaust Tips......

I am installing 2 new chrome exhaust tips on my 66 427/425 coupe and am wondering how much should be showing (exposed) out beyond the top of the surrounding bezel to be correct for judging? Any thoughts?

    Larry,

The past discussions say that the edge of the tips are close to the trailing edge of the bumper, but that's not always what you see. I tried to find the past discussion for you but there is too much in the archives to read all of it. Here's a sample talking about C3 bumpers, but the idea is the same.

Larry if you took measurements of every C2 corvette I would bet that all would be different, as the exhaust manufacturers are a trying to duplicate the original system, but seems that none can do it like the factories mass production. most systems today are made to order so cutting of the piping may vary slightly. if you notice your tips are expanded only so much so they slide over the muffler end, so you have a little wiggle room to just make the even. No ones got there tape measure out at judging and making sure there not sticking out farther one side than the other, unless its really bad and then you know you'll need to do something.

Thanks for both your thoughts. I will probably install the tips so both extend out almost to the bumper edge.

I believe you'll discover that there is not enough tip to reach the leading edge and still leave enough tip for clamping purposes. Most likely the tips will fall around 2" shy, possibly more, of the bumpers outside edge.

When you install those exhaust tips, it would be best to use the proper clamps with the gusset.
