    High brake pedal

A friend just finished a brake job on his '65. He just called and asked if there is an adjustment on the height of the brake pedal. He says it's way too high...at the top of apex. I didn't have an answer (and it's too late to drive over) as to how to adjust the height...to make it more resemble the height of the clutch. Thoughts??

Leif, when the brakes are done and bled correctly the free play is generally about 3/4" The only adjustment is behind brake booster. push rod has a adjuster. ( if it's a power brake car). Manuel brakes I don't recall if the push rod is adjustable.

Thank you, gentlemen. Gene, to your point, the brake pedal is at the same height now as before the completion of the brake job (new pads, resurfaced rotors and bleed system...no leaking calipers). I'm going by his place this evening and I will check to see if it is a power brake car or not. This certainly gives me a starting point. I just thought that maybe the rubber pedal stop may not be installed...hmmmmm.

I would say the rubber pedal stop is the most likely problem for a brake pedal that is too high. It may be missing but it might be there as they tend to wear/compress over the years, leaving them much thinner than they were when new. I've also experienced the problem that the replacement bumper is too thick, making the pedal too low, in which case, I've used a utility knife to shave off some rubber until the pedal height was right.
