Is there a gasket that goes in between the fuel inlet fitting and the air horn on these carbs? If so, is it red or black?

Definitely requires a gasket, but I don't know original color.
'63 300hp 3460S AFB Hard to see but gasket is behind the fitting against the top cover boss.

Re: 1962-1965 AFB Carburetor
I have seen black, some even of metal, but mostly red fiber like material. Also, I have seen two different inlet fittings; the early ones from say 62 or 63 use the metal or black gasket, while the later ones from a 64 to 65 3720 series seem to use the red fiber gasket and, I find these make a much better seal - so much in fact that I seek the fittings and gaskets out to use on my 63 3461S carburetor. I don't swear by my observations as being fact, but just include them FWIW. You will find, I believe, that most rebuild kits include a red fiber gasket which will not seal well with the early fittings. Also, while you may be at it, don't forget to put in a debris screen in the fitting. Most kits will not have a new screen so you may need to clean the existing one or order a new one. Most carburetor supply outfits carry them. They are cheap so I usually get a bunch if for no other reason than to pick out the best ones (some are better shaped than others).
