Wayne - thank you very much. This red unit is so degraded that is it unlikely it is not original for some year. And it is a fair match for the pic of new belts which I first posted. It is also a fair match for the pics Tracy Crisler posted last night. Tracy is the guy who sold me my belts and painted the buckles. He may be wondering why I'm questioning this (him) but I'm the kind of guy who likes to avail himself of all relevant facts and see base data. It would still be nice to have an original owner chime in but I'm more comfortable after seeing your pics that what I bought is correct. The belts them self are original and are extremely nice; I'm glad to have them although they are so nice I haven't mustered the courage to put them in the car yet.
As for the date, if you are talking about the '64 on the label of the blue belt, that is not the kind of date code I'm talking about. The pic attached is an example of a date code which tells you the week and year of manufacturer - week 36 of 1963. The "A" in this code is debated but some think it is the line the belts were made on. The '64 on your label is a year designation and would be for a 64 built in the spring of 64 and, if the color were good for 65, a 65 built in the fall of 64....but this date is not very specific. The date in my pic was applied to repro belts and either the person ordering them or the one making them didn't know that this type of date was not use in week 36 of 63. But something similar to this was used on 66 cars according to Charlie Santorelli and others on this forum.
