    Carter Climatic Control (Choke) identification

    Hello
Today I took a look at my Carter carburetor and fixed an issue with the choke.
I noticed some small numbers on the Climatic Control and do not have a clue what they mean.180-50 and 186-79.
    Maybe someone can identify them.

Carburetor is a Carter AFB 3461 with correct numbers so far.

Thank you and have a nice day.Ruedi

Ruedi, I believe all of those are the Carter manufacturing internal part numbers.

Just about every part has a stamped, cast, or embossed number on it. Jets, throttle plates, metering rods, bases, etc.

I remember seeing some Carter documentation with part numbers somewhere. If I can locate it I'll post it here.

Look in your Judging Guide (JG). The housing has a "170" number that is judged. The black Bakelite cover also has a number, but the JG is silent on that number. I see the number "4" a lot. However, the JG for 61-62 is being revised and is due to issued shortly.

Ruedi, I looked for that info with the numbers but came up dry. I can't remember where I saw it.

                Ruedi,

Send an email to Mike Ernst. Mike's a 61-2 subject matter expert.

I found this article below about 62 AFB's that Mike wrote for the Restorer Magazine.

Or send Gary Hodges an email. Gary's the NCRS Carb rep. fuelishgary@live.com

Recommend purchasing the Restorer magazines on CD-ROM. The CD contains all the previous Restorer articles. Wealth of information.

Choke Assembly: This 1962-only application has a casting number on the back side of 170-575. The choke cover itself has a threaded center extension for the choke heat tube from the top of the right intake manifold. The cover is identified in circular fashion as "Carter Climate Control" and generally has a "170" cast in the top, as well as numbers cast in an indented flat portion.

My 1963 JG shows a 170-786 is the choke housing.

Just found 170-786 on the back of the choke housing. So it's the right one. Thank you.
