    '72 A/C relay mounting?

I've been sorting out the "Bubba customized" wiring for my A/C. The AIM shows the relay mounted in a different location from where it's mounted on my car. Mine is mounted to the upper flange of the evaporatyor housing beneath the wiper door actuator. The car is an early October build and I've searched the internet for pics of another early build to see if there was a change at some point that is not indicated in the AIM. I attached a few pics.

The first is a pic from a '72 I found on the internet. The relay is mounted as indicated in the AIM. The second two pics are of my car when I was refreshing the engine compartment a while ago. One shows the location of the relay in the position it was in when I got the car. The other is a pic of the spot the AIM says it should be on the housing. Notice that there are no holes that indicate that it has been moved and repaired.

Is this something that is seen on other early 72's?? I have no plans on moving it, I was just curious about the reason for it's position. Thanks!!

My September 13, 1971 built car, although a small block, has the A/C relay mounted in the same location as the first photo. It is an un-molested, original, top-flight car.

The relay on my November of 71 built 72 is located like the one in the first picture.

My late build 71 is like your first photo as well.

I'm not doubting that the AIM and what you guys have on your cars is not correct, I just find it interesting that this is the only car I can find with the relay mounted this way. Has anyone ever seen or can think of a reason for this unusual mounting?? Honestly, it's a bit neater with the relay mounted there but probably more difficult to service.

Tom, maybe go to the C3 Corvette Registry and run through some of the owners Pic.s and see if you find ones that are mounted as your big block. I know my 72 small block car has it mounted as the first pic. I not sure on Pat's car but think he has a small block. It may also be possible that part of the housing was replaced, I don't see the Harrison foil decal on the housing which also has a date stamp.

I have a June 1972 small block with factory A/C, the relay is located per the first photograph, see attached photograph, this relay is a replacement,

I removed the original Harrison decal myself, it was a mess and I still have it. I can post a pic but that may not help solve the mystery.

Unrelated but when I removed the evaporator housing I found that the fiber insulation found it's way into the evapoator inlet, how I do not know. Probably why the A/C was dismantled. Check out the pic.
