    Thanks to IL Chapter!

I had my white 64 a/c coupe judged at the IL chapter meet last month. Although I had been through the Bloomington Gold judging process, this was my first experience with an NCRS judging meet. I wasn't sure what to expect. I found the entire process to be extremely enjoyable, not at all intimidating, and a source of valuable information concerning the proper configuration of my car. The judges were highly knowledgable and took the time to go over their findings with me, item by item. They offered tips, sources of correct parts, and ways to easily and inexpensively correct the deficiencies they found.

If you've never attended one of these events and are curious about the originality of your car then I highly recommend participating in one of these chapter meets. Its not a competition but rather a gathering of corvette people talking about corvettes. Its an enjoyable and inexpensive experience that provides you with a valuable punch list of things to do on a Saturday afternoon.

    Thank you for your hospitality,
    Jim and Glenda

Jim, Your car is very nice (I was judging the car next to you). We all hope that all car owners have a similar experience to yours. Don H.

I had my 65 Roadster judged there last year and found this group to be truly energized in their quest to keep old Corvetts alive!!! Which is one of the many reasons I became a member!

Wow, as a long time member of the NCRS it makes me proud of the organization when someone has a positive experience like Jim and Glenda had with their 64 Corvette. Using words like "extremely enjoyable" and "highly knowledgeable judges" is what Roy Sinor has worked for during his tenure as National Judging Chairman!
Thanks for the Illinois Chapter rolling out the welcome carpet and creating a "fun environment"!

There are lots of great guys in the IL chapter. I would love to see them host a regional/national event.

              Steve.

We are working on it, but most IL Chap Members are in the Chicago area and it would cost so much to hold a Regional in the Chicago area, wow, talk about cost, $$$ and expenses. We need to look at Springfield, Bloomington or maybe Effingham as locations.
              My 2 cents worth.

                George,
That's great to hear. As for locations, would the Dupage Expo center or the Schaumburg convention centers make sense? They are not in Chicago yet still close enough to it so that there would be plenty to see and do. It would be great for a National event.
                Thanks,
                Steve

                  Steve,

Both of the locations you mention think they are part of Chicago, as does the Rosemont Stevens Center. If you are willing to pay $200 and up a night for a hotel room, come on up.

The Illinois Chapter, along with the St Louis Chapter did put on a Regional at Effingham some years back. The highlight was the wildlife on the PV route. We were fortunate to have an emergency indoor venue when it began to rain. That event was economically possible because of the largesse of Mike Yeager.

                  Jim,
Thank you for your kind words. We do try.

BTW: George: some of us in Illinois are driving a thousand miles to Kenner. For those of you not familiar with Illinois it is over 300 miles from the north border to where George lives, and another 40-50 miles from there to the southern border. Nothing like Texas, but still a very diverse and lengthily state.

                    Terry,
I know that when the Muscle and Corvette Nationals takes place at Rosemont, the host hotel charges 102 per night which I think is reasonable. I know that's a different event, just pointing out that anything is possible.

The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals comes back every year and fills all the rooms the hotel will give them -- and some overflow hotels as well. Unfortunately we don't have that kind of muscle (pun intended). However if you want to try to negotiate with them all of us would be interested in what kind of deal you can get -- after all anything is possible. How much of the Stevens Center would we need? How many people would come to a Regional or National in the Chicago land area?

BTW: You do know that one of the reasons Bloomington Gold left St Charles and the DuPage Expo Center was complaints of the high cost of lodging and other expenses in Chicago. That was complaints from participants. It was only one of many reasons, but a factor none the less. Personally I think we should learn from their experience.

I am told the Illinois Chapter Board has discussed all the possibilities you have mentioned, but so far the idea is just that. George is aware of those discussions taking place as he has made this suggestion in a more appropriate setting in the past. However, in spite of his and your enthusiasm the amount of effort y'all could put into it from your distance would not be substantial.

BTW: I should point out that I am NOT an officer of Illinois NCRS Chapter and, like George and Steve, ofer my opinions only as MY opinions.

Edit add: Those of you with enthusiasm for a Regional and/or National event in the Chicago land area should communicate those sentiments, along with your offer to help in the planning and execution, to members of the Illinois NCRS BoD. Contact information for them is on the IL NCRS web site http://www.ilncrs.org

I had my '66 coupe judged at the Central California Coast chapter of NCRS in May and had a positive experience identical to Jim and Glenda's. Everyone was friendly, the judges were cordial and informative, and the environment they created was fun, educational and collegial. I had some apprehension prior to attending the event given my car, although very original, was modified in certain driveability and vanity aspects: 5 speed trans, aftermarket sidepipes, aftermarket knock-offs, Nardi wheel, etc. Nevertheless, I second flighted and could not have been happier.
