    Leak from spill valve cover

Started my 60 FI after a long Winter nap and have a fuel leak from around the cover on the spill plunger assembly. The car started easily but this is a serious leak. I see in the servicing guide that there is an O ring on the sleeve and also for the cover. Does this problem sound like an O ring failure or more of a spill plunger problem? This is a 200 unit and has not had any service work other than a new shaft seal and electric solenoid fuel shut off added over the last 20 years. I've only used 100 LL since pure gas has become hard to find. I have a rebuild kit purchased many years ago and assume it would contain the O rings, if that is what is needed. Is there any other reason for the fuel leak from the cover? Thanks, Chuck Banks

Chuck, you're talking about the lower cover, I assume, that has the three tabs around the circumference that the attaching screws go through? I've had one leak in spring also. The o-ring, even with old good gas, would get hard as a rock over the years, and would come out with a cross-section square rather than round. The o-ring is in a rebuild kit. It's a standard size, and available in your local parts store if they have fuel-resistant rings. That should be all you need.
good luck with that great old '60 you have.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, that's the cover I'm asking about, and I do have an 0-ring in the kit that appears to be the correct diameter. I'm hoping I can use a stubby or flex drive screwdriver to remove the screws and not have to remove the fuel meter. Chuck

Chuck, I had a similar experience a couple of years ago when I started my '60 for the first time after winter. I would suggest you get a Viton seal (green) as this is compatible with the current pump gas - available from any F.I. supplier. I know you said you only run 100 LL (I do too) but if you need to run pump gas it is ready. After my experience, I added that O-ring to my carry parts in both of my fuel cars. I still want to see your beautiful '60 sometime. Good luck, Don H.
