1970 Engine Pad Stamp CGW Suffix Crooked and Upside Down 8

Hi. I have been looking to buy a 1970 LS5 Corvette, and I am concerned about the engine pad stamp. The owner has the original Protecto Plate, as well as the Tank Sticker, and more documentation, and it all looks very real. The T0428CGW is also on the Protecto Plate as well.

Unfortunately, the 3 photos that I have, are small in file size. My question is, have any of you seen a Suffix code stamped so crooked before, as well as the "8" being upside down, all on the same engine block? Sorry for the small and lousy photos, but that is all I have been given so far. Files 1 and 2 were scans of film photos, and the 3rd file was a photo taken with the gentleman's iPhone.

I have searched many threads here already, and saw some misaligned engine Suffix Code Stamps, but nothing this bad. The pad looks very aged, and not one that has recent Broach marks. The owner is over 1500 miles away from me, so before I take a flight, it would be great to have some opinions from the NCRS members here.

    Thank you in advance,

    Steve

Don't have a photo of an example, but I have seen such anomalies. Here is an example of a very ugly but real stamp.

Possibly a factory grind-out and restamp. I'd get much better pictures before getting on a plane, or inform the seller that you're not interested in paying 'original engine' money.

If you're considering getting on a plane, I'd definitely want higher rez photos beforehand. If he "can't do it", have him find someone who can.

            Hi Dick,

Thank you very much for your opinion. I have read many of your posts on these boards, and was hoping that you would post your valued opinion here. I am trying to get better photos of the pad, and will wait to see them, before I make any trip that far.

            Happy Fourth of July,

            Steve

              Tom,

Thanks for adding the photo of your pad. That puts me a little more at ease. I am still a little concerned about the CGW being so much out of whack, so I will wait for better photos of his pad, so I can check out the broach marks.

              Happy Fourth of July,

              Steve
