67 rear end casting date location

Can someone please tell me the location of the casting date for the rear end of my car? The rear end is in the car. Or a picture of the location.

    Thanks

    Lawrence

    Lawrence,

The casting date should be on the left (drivers) side just forward of the yoke on the half shaft. You will need to get under the car with a flashlight to see.

Lawrence -- a pic says it all. Here's a '67 diff empty carrier that I have, with a casting date D_12_7; casting # 3899143. Assembly date stamped on bottom rear flange AU_5_17_67 (427, 3.36 posi).

It's hard to see the casting date when diff is in the car, as the strut rod bracket (mostly) blocks a direct view, or else this area is caked with oil and dirt leaking from the output yoke (which is why the casting date is so well preserved).

Car is on the lift but still could not see the casting date due to the strut rod bracket. I did see "1228" on the same side as the casting date down low and forward of the half shaft position.
Can I take the strut rod bracket off while the car is on the lift with not much headache?

No as if you do you will need to realign the rear end.. Try a mirror

That "1228" could be (Sept 22nd 1968). Here's another carrier I have with dates similar to yours, but you should really confirm the stamped codes on the bottom flange and the casting # on the forward nose, to be sure everything agrees.

Mine decodes as I_11_8 (Sept 11th); assembly stamping 2_AL_10_22_68_W (3.08 posi small block, Oct 22nd, 1968 Warren gear plant) Part casting # 3899143 replaced 3876476 sometime in calendar 1966 [others may be able to nail the changeover more more precisely].

The stamping on the rear flange is damaged due to repair/jacking? On the pop booklet the dealer wrote rear end roar and a date sometime in 1967. I don't remember now, but apparently when car was young they had to repair the rear end. I made out "67" on the flange but that is about it.

Wayne you were right! The code I was looking at was I 22 6. I thought the date code was further under the half shaft, but after shining a bright light on the area and getting closer I saw it was a cast date.

                    Thanks
