    1963 front brake anchor pin

The anchor pin requires a washer for installation. I haven't seen the washer sold by itself, only comes with the anchor pin. Is this washer a Corvette part or can I take the old washer to a hardware store and match it up to something on the shelf? Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads!

There may be two washers used in conjunction with the anchor pin installation. If you are referring to the split lock washer, that is just a standard part and can be obtained in any good hardware or automotive store. I would prefer to use a grade 8 lockwasher for this but if you can't find one, a standard grade 5 will be OK.

If the installation uses another washer, that is a specialty item, although not unique to Corvette. I don't think that 1963 uses this sort of washer but it might.

Thanks Joe, I think the split lock washer goes with the rear anchor pin while the front gets a large, thin flat washer. The washer gets peened over after the pin is tightened. Similar to a french lock. Maybe its a common GM part that the Chevy dealer will have. Probably 2 for ten dollars.

The other washer was GM #3846589. It was discontinued without supercession by GM in 1983. I don't know of a current aftermarket equivalent but there may be one.

If you are referring to the guide PLATE (the part with the "ears" that don't get bent over), that part is still available from GM under current GM #18060021.

Just dealing with the exact same issue on my '63 front drum brakes. The washer is very thin, so it can be peened over against the anchor pin hex., I was thinking of grinding a new washer down, but will probably just get new anchor pins with washers - mine are a little pitted.

Thanks for the reply Doug, I think I'll shop for the washers. My anchor pins are also pitted but I can't bring myself to pay $16 for the pin&washer if I just need the washer. Have you found any other quirks while doing your brakes? I'm thinking I'll just buy all new parts from Corvette Central rather than rebuild or reuse. The other thing I noticed is that if you want the two self-adjuster springs you have to buy the entire adjuster hardware package. Guess there is no money in selling a few washers and springs separately.
