    1968 Carpet Cut Outs

For my '68, is it correct that there are co cut outs for the rear bolts/track to sit on? Also for the front, do I understand correctly to cut an 'H' and remove the aft square to have the track end and bolt sit on? Thanks for clarification.

For 1968 I think you will find owners who report no cut outs for the rear track, and owners who do report cut outs. My 1968 doesn't have them.

The front cut outs are a simple U shape. The tracks sit directly on the fiberglass floor and the flap on the U is used to cover them up.

See the attached pictures for a look at my 1968.

Just a little off topic but carpet related. I notice in John's first picture there is a trim where the outboard seat belt comes through the carpet. Did all '68's have this trim? I have the chrome piece underneath but haven't seen any trim in this area. The car is a mid December if this makes any difference and if I should have them are they black or carpet color? By the way, there was no carpet in the car when I bought it. Thanks.

Not all 1968 carpets have the grommet for the seat belt to pass through. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which carpets received it and which ones didn't.

          John:
Assuming I didn't have the grommet, how is the carpet finished off around the area where the belt would pass through? Is it just a slot cut in the rug or what?

If the carpet doesn't have the grommet, the carpet is cut in the same location for the belt to pass through and left rough.

I have the grommets on my Jan 22 built 68 if this helps.

While people are reporting the grommets or lack of them, it might be wise to consider that the presence, or lack of grommets may have been not only dictated by car serial number, but also carpet color and maybe even manual or automatic transmission -- that conundrum is why the judging manual says, to paraphrase: ... some had them and some did not. For more see page 17 of the 4th edition 1968-69 TIM&JG.

What's the consensus on how far the front cut out flap goes back on a '68? Does it go just past the bolt or farther back? Thanks.
