I am going to look at a 68 convertible that the owner said when he purchased it 12 years ago the owner indicated it was an original BB car. It has a small now and the car has been modified. Can someone tell me what to look for or direct me to references to help me id it has a original BB car or SB car. thanks Cal

Cal. Check to see if it has a rear sway bar. Also, the tach's for 427's ( 390&400) has the redlines starting at 5600 RPM and the redline starting at 6500 RPM for the 435 & 430 hsp.Jack Corso

Re: Id 1968 427 car
Ask for original factory documentation with the car. The big block was an options package, all of which was available over the parts counter at Chevrolet. Any and all of the components of the package could have been installed by previous owners.

See if the rear end half shaft yokes use the cast cap (big blocks) or the u-bolts (4sp small blocks). I think small block automatic cars started using the big block type caps in 68 so this is only a good indicator for 4 sp cars. Also check the rear end codes since this is a hard to change part.- Top
