66 "green" zinc chromate primer, "color"?

Trying to replicate the "Green" zinc chromate primer for use in my 66 restoration. Ordered a can from paragon, color shade is way off!!! Does anyone else supply a correct color?

      William,
The "Green" zinc chromate primer that GM used was the real stuff. Today green zinc phosphate is being sold in place of the "Green" zinc chromate primer. It is lighter shade vs the darker zinc chromate. I think the #@*% government has something to do with it.

I have yet to see one of current manufacture that is the correct color. As a result I've always anticipated that when I need some for a restoration I'll have some green paint of the correct color and sheen mixed up to use over top of whatever I really use for corrosion protection.

Check Moeller Zinc Primer in a spray can. I can't remember if the color was close.

There is no excuse at all for off color nor a modern paint the correct gloss, with modern corrosion protection with out the chromate.

Its like falling off a log, so for those that want to do this immediately, if there is a piece you can take there, you can get it mixed to match at a local paint store.

But...as I recall there were shade differences in the mid years on their own, St Louis and AOS in the mix...so you have to narrow it to your year and body build shop.

I took some " chips " off the inside of the front door supports, and had the paint custom mixed to match the original on my 63. Since the whole cage had to be done, and the car was just about down to bare bones, I thought it was the best way to go.

Yep, It's close enough for me, used on the 67. I tried Duplicolor first and it was way off.

One other alternative would be a marine boat supply store they would car Zinc Chromate Primer in a rattle can. Also in the aviation field there were 2 different shades of Zinc Chromate a dark green and brighter yellow and there could be more but during my career those were the shade I was aware of.

My link in a prior post shows they carry the yellow and the green
