    Sticker Shock -- new 2013 ZR1 (Canada)

Was at a local Calgary Alberta Chevy dealer, looking at the Volt, and took this pic. Notice the base price (column 4) and the final price with options (column 6), but before 5% federal tax. For the unfortunate Canadians living in Quebec, the bite will be closer to 15%, due to additional provincial tax. Question is, who the heck buys these things ?

P.S. I see that the post chopped off most of the right side of the sticker, in spite of the full pic showing on Photobucket. Final price is: $134,710., + taxes. c

Wow! Just Wow. I hope the Canadian government is using all that additional tax money for good things. If you want real sticker shock, try buying one of these in Norway. I hear the run well over $200K exclusively due to taxes on the HP, options, etc. Now I see why non-US people come here to buy them and ship them back, even paying VAT is cheaper if they are "used" cars, not sure how that would work in Canada though.

But look at your gas savings, at 30mpg, the extra cost is paid for in three years.

Here's one of the highest priced ones I could find on the registry:

But, you will notice the US base price is "only" $111,600, compared to the Canadian base price of $120K on your example. Guess that difference is Canadian dealer markup, or tax, or what? Can't be exchange rate, they are almost exactly 1 for 1.

You gota use my philosophy on buying a new vette; "it's only money, you can get it back by working"

+1, fully agree. And I would add my philosophy too as a retiree, "it's only money and you can't use it no matter where you go when you die, so enjoy it now".

I'm trying to figure out why Wayne was looking at a Volt (?)

At $134K, wouldn't you want to purchase a pair?

George -- I didn't know you went back to work. Congratulations on your new job.

My philosophy is "you can always collect another pension." That works for me. Entitlements rule. I worked for them.

Hey, what are you complaining about. The loonie is worth more than our dollar now, so that $134k is a bargain. It's $138k American.
