Air Cleaner Decals Early C2 and up

Surprisingly there isn't a lot of discussion about this, but for the 396 (65) and 427 cross flag decals, when did "PRINTED IN THE U.S.A. start?

How about on the quarter circle horse power decal?

The text is there - start date anyone?SnapShot8.jpg

Like Ron, I'm curious too. Where are all the 65, 66 and 67 resident experts on these decals?

Also, which vendor reproducing the closest, more correct decals, if any?

And harder yet to make one if what is real for 65 or 66 or 67 are held so close that no one is willing to say what they were.

they were not made from an original...if you are looking for 65 they are completely different materials 100% different.

FWIW this is an educated evaluation...
I was in the pulp paper and allied trades for nearly 20 years
                  AND
From what I can tell the original Air cleaner labels are flexo printed on metalized wet strength. (all of the silver labels appear to be printed on the same substrate.)
Metalized paper is paper which has Vapor deposited Aluminum on the surface...(could be foil laminated but highly unlikely as the surface doesn't act like foil) Vapor deposited Aluminum is how non metal items are "chrome plated". (dash plastic etc)

THEN Printed With a Flexographic press... (FLEXO uses a rubber matrix printing plate where the plate directly contacts the substrate - this causes the INK to "squish" out and under a loop is easy to see)
Flexo is often used when there are not registration and bleed concerns. (single or 2-3 color jobs where there are not touching colors)

Re: Air Cleaner Decals Early C2 and up

There were more that three different versions.

What you refer to as metal on paper was the later versions, and not what 65-67 are needing to be correct.

For one thing, the original 1965/ 396 big block labels did NOT have paper in them, at all. Now that secrets out!

66 67 labels had a very distinct metal layer that is same as 65, but they had paper backing.
