68 Hood questions

Starting to dissect the incorrect 68 convertible with the correct 68 coupe. 1st , the driver side hood latch. There are provisions for a spring. The Survivor doesn't have it .the convertible does. 2nd, the hood latch cable has two mounting points with clips. One in the middle and another between the middle and the passenger hood latch. What year hood did they stop using the second mounting point? I have come to the conclusion that I have an incorrect hood.it doesn't have the second mounting clip. Many thanks again. Jeff

The "one clip" cross cable hood was introduced in very late 1969 (after about September, 1969). The hood latches and latch bolts also changed at the same time.

There were 3 different upper latch sets used for 1968. The one you pictured looks like the last iteration for the left side. There should be a spring on the end of the release arm extending to the anchor point adjacent to one of the mounting holes. This style latch was never originally used with the "one clip" cross cable hood.

You did not picture the right side latch. That could be important here, too

No, the spring was used throughout 1969 and, I believe, for at least the later 1968's that used the 69-style latches.

Joe, Is a May 10 built 68 considered mid or late? Should my May built car have the spring on the driver side (left) latch? Thank you Kurt

With respect to the hood latches, I would say late. I believe it had the spring.
