    Re: GM in China

I guess the old say saying made in the USA really does not mean anything in todays market, Its a sad state of affairs. I brought a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse a couple of years now and starting looking around under the hood when its was new , and the first thing I noted was a big old sticker on the wiring harness - made in China

As I said twice before: building plants and selling product in that market is exactly what American companies need to do and I wholeheartedly endorse it. Look, I own GM and Ford stock and the more they sell in China and other markets the better chances I have of increased share price or maybe even a dividend.. Just don't send those cars here- employ American workers to build for here.

When people start crowin' about "made in America" I show them the factory installed Showa shocks and the FCC clutch disk on my Harley. All OEM.

So what car made in China is exported to the USA by Ford or GM?

Unless the situation has changed in the last few months, GM has not imported any cars from China.

                Re: GM in China

Don made a couple of good points about the economy and the bail-out. But let's face it guys, the U.S. is not on the radar for the foreign countries when it comes to need. Who sent aid the Haiti when the floods hit..us. Who sent aid to Iraq. Us. Who sent aid when the Sunami hit. Us. Who sent aid when Sandy hit. Us, not anyone else. Once again, we have created an entitlement environment. We are the worlds cash cow and we just keep on borrowing from China to send money to them.

One good thing though. As costs go up in China jobs are coming back. My next door neighbor is a very big dog at Coleman. 10 years ago they moved a lot of manufacturing to China. They finally figured out that with the new cost structure, tariffs and shipping its cheaper to build it here for our market, so they are moving it all back here. The circle is closing in, and with quality issues and other issues like shipping, just give it time. Look at what's happened with Mexico.

Made in China? I work on my own cars and have experienced many problems with electrical components. Had to try three units before I could get one to work. Bring back to the States and maybe we can creat some jobs?

As interesting a topic as this is, I struggle to understand how this thread is in any way related to Corvette? I'd respectfully recommend the big red pad-lock and close it.

In all honesty, I do not know if this particular part was made in China or not. I DO KNOW that it was not manufactured at Saginaw Steering Gear/Nexteer. The bowtie flange has the machined flat on the opposite side from the way it was designed and manufactured. So when the purchaser installs the flange and coupling assembly into his/her vehicle there is only one way that the parts assemble. After everything is buttoned up, the owner will find that the steering wheel is now upside down. Some people cannot even copy correctly.
