    Drive shaft detail

On the '67 L71, I am not clear from reading the manual on the driveshaft finish and if any stripes are on it. Thanks for any opinions.

    Michael -

Finish is "natural", and a green and an orange stripe are typical.

Thanks John. So I guess like the half shafts on finish, natural forged finish unpainted steel tube? And is the green and orange stripes, green toward the front and orange toward the back? Thanks.

Of the 30 or so C2s I've seen all had strips to the front (at transmission) except one 63 shaft just to prove us wrong.

Just my opinion - the Finish shown above is much to good, like it, but GM did not buff those tubes. So that can cut down on your work.

Thanks to all for your help. And I probably won't buff mine so shiny. But, considering the driveshaft and half shafts were just bare steel tubes, the rust must have been horrendous over the years in bad places like the NE and Midwest. No wonder so many painted them in later years.

                  Michael,

You are so right about the corrosion on these parts. Last year I replaced the drive shaft u-joints on my 67 and I could not in my right mind re-use that driveshaft. Places like Corvette's at Carlisle are good places to find a used driveshaft fairly cheep. After I glassbeaded the replacement shaft I used some chrome paint sprayed on a rag wet with acetone and rubbed a small amount on the shaft then polished with some fine steel wool. It looks just fine.

My 67 showing the swatch Craig mentions. My stripes were to the rear, not the usual but happens.
