    C1 Part Look Up

Can someone look up distributor hold down clamp #3704912 (wire type I think)? It does not show up in the GM P&A book with Feb. 61 update. I believe it was used up through 11-1-1960 when it changed to 3772532 (stamped steel with 1 13/32" hole). The 3704912 will not show up in the parts book after 1960 as I already tried GMpartswiki and my 1961 updated book.

2.363 group in the '57 book shows 3704912, NOT the steel wire type, big old clunky stamping. Just lucked onto it on the exploded engine parts illustration...

      Re: C1 Part Look Up

I have info from 6 1960 owners, cars built from Nov. 59 through March 60, report to me that they have the wire type clamp. One car with 32,000 miles, one with 10,000, and one with 54,000 miles. The only report of the stamped steel is from Jim Durham, car #3714 (purchased in 1976). I have not queried 1960 owners with cars built from April to the end of the 1960 build. The judging guide states that all 1960s used the stamped steel and I am not so sure of that.

If you own a 1960 and wish to provide information on the hold down clamp, I would appreciate it.

Well Joe, the '60 Parts book also calls for the 3704912, stamped steel, the '63 parts book alslo calls for a stamped steel part, but a different number P/N 3772532 service for all '55-63 Smallblock including Corvette, still no mention of wire, although the '63 parts book also specifies a retainer to match a wire style calmp so that could be the reason for the part number change to the '532 part number. That about exhausts my reference supply on this issue and the associated parts.

          Re: C1 Part Look Up

Thanks Bill. I have almost exhausted the topic as well. It seems odd that in my sampling of 7 cars, 6 of 7 would have the wire clamp. The 54,000 mile car engine has never been apart. It still has the original intake manifold gaskets with the square tabs and "GM" embossed. I suppose the original stamped steel hold down clamp could have been removed without the remainder of the engine being touched and replaced with the wire type.

i don't think I am going to be able to identify the part number for the wire clamp and separate retainer. There is another clamp listed in the parts book and a retainer for "ignition timer retainer", but I don't know for certain if that is the clamp.

from the 55 chevy parts book the clamp used in 55 is part number 3704912. part number 3737046 is put in service much later and is used as a service replacement for 3704912.

                    Joe and all onboard Hi!

I have '60 #1335, I purchased this car from the original owner in 1974. Straight and unmolested car which I still own. I am offering the following information and photo in the event that it may be helpful here, re. wire spring/clamp distributor holdown assembly and UR head logo retaining screw.
