    C1 Deck Hinge Tower Help

Can someone guide me on installing the Deck Hinge Tower. My question is the tower attached to the deck itself with rivets ? If so what size? My 58 had some kind of modification done with cut bolts and I would like to take it back to orginial for judging. I understand the hinge tower bolts on the bottle but does it bolt or rivet to the deck.

A picture would be great if someone had one. Email: Eallenmba@gmail.com

    Thanks,

    Eric

the tower's upper surface rivets to the body. peening the rivets is difficult and cause fracturing of the fiberglass if not careful. mike

If you are going to use rivets, be sure to purchase soft aluminum rivets. I did not know there was a difference until I purchased hard aluminum rivets from a local rivet vendor and could not peen them.

Does anyone know the correct rivet size used back in production or have a picture?

Size of rivet would depend on size (diameter) of hole in tower and lip of trunk area. Without looking, guess the rivet size would 3/16" to 1/4" in diameter.

1957 AIM shows P/N 455624 which Doc Rebuild lists as 3/16 dia X 1/2 long oval head. Expect '58 would be the same.

The 1960 AIM shows the same part numb 455624. You can buy the 3/16 soft rivets from most of the corvette suppliers. If they are to long, you can trim to fit.
