Original Tires on a '57

Was the "profile" of an original 6.70x15 tire from 1957 different than the profile of a 6.70x15 tire from 1964......?

I have an original, non-DOT 6.70x15 US Royal w/w spare in my '64 that fits perfectly in the '64 tire tub (with proper inflation, etc....)..... however, when I move this tire to the spare tire well on the '57, the "jack board" will not sit level with the floor of the trunk...... it sits ~1/2" high......much like the "modern" spare that I currently use.....

If the profile of this tire was changed, when did this take place......? I'd like to know which tire allows this jack board to lie flat....

The dimensions of a 6.70x15 tire was established by the Tire and Rim Association which publishes a book of specs each year (called a Yearbook). I doubt if the tire spec changed, but does a 64 use a wider rim than a 57, perhaps 51/2 inch vs 5 inch?

Like Patrick suggests, a 5 1/2 inch wheel? When I put my 5 1/2 inch in the well of my '57 the board is higher.

Gary why don't you try taking a tire off you car and putting in in your tub and then evaluate the issue. It could be the rim.
