    Re: 1983 Corvette

When I was on the early build drive with GM Operations Quality, we had six of the first cars, and they were all white! I remember my disappointment as I was going to buy one and figured the trip would give me a good chance to compare the colors. Not So! First off the line were all white, although in the next few weeks more colors were introduced.

Bill, If I remember correctly, When we were in bowling Green for a National event in 83
they had suspended several colors due to Quality control issues. Black was one and I believe that red was
the other. The also were installing the first Doug Nash transmissions as we took the plant tour. (According to the
      tour guides)

Red was a VERY difficult color, which is one of the reasons there were so many shades of it during the '84 production run. I opted for a Blue one when I ordered, and with no paint charts to look at thought I was safe. It was OK, but not what I had hoped. Did a lot better with the tutone Brown on my '85, a really nice car. The '85 also taught me just how much faster the PFI was than the crossfire, about a full second in the 1/4 mile.

My '84 was Gold, a somewhat early car I don't recall the exact VIN it was in the 1500s. I bought it in May 1983; the dealer I bought it from obtained it from another dealer in the Detroit area, I think they were buried in it and paid a premium to get it because it sat around in the showroom for a couple of months.

It did NOT have the Bose sound system which most folks wanted. When I got it was untitled with about 1500 miles on it. Sold it 1987.

I agree it sure doesn't seem like 30 years ago. IMO C4's clam shell hood is still best parts of the car, showing off all the forged aluminum suspension hardware.

Agreed, it's very cool and distinctive.
