    67 stop light switch capacitor

I have just pulled the instrument cluster out of my 67 for restoration. The stop light switch socket is accompanied by a capacitor that is attached to the structure next to the stop light switch. When the stop light switch socket was removed the capacitor leads came out with it. It appears the capacitor was possibly an afterthought as it has brass tabs on each end of its leads which I assume go in the switch socket and the then it all gets pushed on the switch receptacle. How important is this capacitor in the system? Can I just leave it disconnected. No one can ever see whether it's hooked up or not. If it is important: It has a lead coming out both ends of the capacitor. Does the leads go to both terminals of the stop light switch?
Thanks a million for any advice. I have several wiring diagrams but I can't find anything about this particular issue.

Brad, There are many capacitors on the mid year corvettes, All aid in reducing the noise in the factory radios. and really should be hooked, If you have a AIM it should show you a pic of attachement.

      Brad,

To add to what Ed said, look in the U69 (radio) section of the AIM.

        Brad -

You'll find that radio noise suppression capacitor in your Assembly Manual, in section U69, sheet A4, item #2; the "flags" on the end of the wires insert into the connector cavities as you noted. See photo below.
