I was looking in Paragon and I see that they show two types of ash trays. One with courtesy lamp lens holes and one without. Which is correct for a 1977 Corvette? I need to replace mine.
Thank you for your help.

My first thought is that a courtesy lamp may have been related to the ZX2 convenience group option but its not included in the description of items included when a vehicle was equipped with ZX2. The judging manual references that early in 1977 production, ZX2 was not available.
But go to the the 1973-77 Ops Manual and it describes the operation of the cigarette lighter lamp. The lamp illuminates when headlights are in the ON position. But not illuminated when only parking lights are on. I get the impression that the lamp is a base equipment item rather than limited to ZX2 but than the question is back to your 1977 configuration...does the lamp come on now when your headlights are on? That should help with your decision about which Paragon item to select.

Over the 1963-82 period, there were 4 ash trays.
The first was GM #3823400. It was used from 1963-76. It has no provisions for a light. It will not fit any 1977 or later console.
The second was GM #1654420. All I know about this ash tray is that GM says it was used in PRODUCTION from 1977 to at least 1981. Curiously, though, it was discontinued from SERVICE in November, 1976 and replaced by GM #1654525. It seems strange that it would have been discontinued from SERVICE at that time but continued to be used in PRODUCTION through at least 1981 but such an occurrence is possible. I don't know if the 1654420 has provisions for a lamp slot. I assume it does but I don't know that. However, if you have an ash tray that has no provisions for a lamp slot, then I assume you have the 1654420 since you could not have a 1976 or earlier style ash tray (it would not fit in your console).
The third ash tray was GM #1654525. It replaced the 1654420 for SERVICE as described above. This ash tray definitely DOES have provisions for a light slot. If the 1654420 does not have such provisions and some 1977 and all later C3 do have light slot provisions, then those cars must have actually been equipped in PRODUCTION with the 1654525.
The fourth ash tray was the GM #20393525. It replaced the GM #1654525 for SERVICE in June, 1984. It does have provisions for a light slot. It is now discontinued.

Tom, I don't have my manuals with me. I have a November 3 assembly '77 that was ordered August 6, 1976 and was delivered with the ZX2 Option. Does the manual give the date when the Convenience Group was offered?
