63 Early mirror set screw type
I have the new 63/64 JM and was wondering about the screw that attachs the outside mirror to door, Its calling for a allen screw, and I got dinged for having a phillips type screw head and having a plastic type base gasket. I see the new manuel made a revison on the gasket but not the screw type. Any of you seasoned 63 judges can you comment on the screw type.

Your phillips screw is the correct one for an early long base outside mirror.

RJ, I don't have any later style 63 mirrors here. Doesn't the later style mirror use a phillips?
My 63 has a NOS door mirror on it. Has a chrome plated phillips. The old rusty one had a phillips also.
Those mirrors are not user friendly. Bad invention. It doesn't take much for the mirror head to be rubbing up against the paint.Comment

Agree its a chrome Phillips head. I got my perfect condition mirror (and lots of other useful parts) off of a 63 Impala in a Nevada wrecking yard.
I had the floppy mirror problem and recently took it apart and tightened it up. First thing I did was to wash the lubricant off the ball with brake cleaner. Heavens knows the mirror moves fine without lubrication. Not hard to do. The only tricky part was getting the retainer ring out and back in. Still the whole deal only took 1/2 hour.
One thing of interest I discovered is the mirror is silvered and date coded on both sides. So if you ever get a scratch in the glass you may be able to solve that by flipping the glass around.Comment
