I was studying the AIM today versus my car and in Section 6 B4.00 a ground wire part number 2987004 shows running from the voltage regulator frame to the horn relay mounting bolt. This is also shown in Section 12 A8.00. I don't have one on my car and am not aware of an electrical performance issue, but I want to know it this ground should be there. I looked at the wiring diagram awhile and could not determine if ground is supplied through other connected wiring, although a ground symbol is shown on the horn relay. Since both are mounted to a fiberglass surface, having a ground may make sense. Can someone tell me if they have the ground and what color. It shows to have a ring terminal on both ends. What size ring terminals?

Re: 64 Ground - voltage reg to horn relay
When was your car built, approximate time is good. The diagram in Sec6 sheet B4.00 is not typical of most 64's however if your voltage regulator is mounted on the inner fender (as mentioned) a ground is needed. Need a little more info here, what side is the relay & regulator mounted on, does it have AC.
Double check your wiring diagram for a date, know some 64AIM's were wrong. If the rev box at bottom shows a 7-16-1965 that's a 65 car (may also be a 66) which may even be wrong.- Top

Re: 64 Ground - voltage reg to horn relay
Alan, Good response, thanks. My car was built 11/25/63 and now, looking at the orientation in the AIM, I can see that it is mounted to the inner fender which then explains why the AIM shows well nuts which I don't have. My voltage regulator is is mounted on the radiator support (just below the horn relay) which I assumed was fiberglass but I'm betting is sheetmetal. I'll check again tomorrow. Also, no A/C.- Top

Ahhh, that sounds good! So hear is what you should have. Notice the small hole on top of regulator - that later became used for the grounds.Attached Files- Top
