Install dash pad 1982 Vet

I am getting ready to install a new 1982 dash panel. What should I do or not do to install it correctly? In other words what should I install on the pad first before I attempt to put it in place.

Dale, I recently installed a dash pad on a 80 not sure how much difference there is, but I can tell you it was a Al Knoch pad and was not even happy about it, As the factory pad was a better fit than Al's pad.and so many issues on install, locating holes because there were no dimples, alignment was terrible, wiper switch had a tough time getting to secure. Everything about this experience tells me that if the original can be fixed or repaired do it!!!! Its truly a mickey mouse set up. Or find your self a nos or a take out somewhere.
