    Brad Penn Oil for 427

A long-term Corvette guy recommended using Brad Penn oil in my 69 solid lifter 427 because of the Zinc additives. He said 10X40 was the way to go. In looking at their website---the 10X40 is a part synthetic blend. The 40 weight straight is not.

I bought the 10X40 since he had it in stock---but thought I'd ask for some assistance before using it as I can have him order the 40 straight if needed.

    Any assistance is appreciated!

I have been using brad Penn 10/40 in my 427/390 without issues. My mechanic liked it so much he started using it in his own bbc.

Thanks---I have a 427/435 L89---so solid lifter cam---that was my main concern---taking care of the solid lifter camshaft.

Since you've only been with NCRS for a month, you've missed out on the facts.

Download and read the following pdf, beginning on page 3:

Once you have read and absorbed the above you should be able to answer the following important questions and let us know the answers, too.

Does the Brad Penn product carry an API service category?

        What is the P analysis?

Duke, Thanks for the info---this old midwest boy got lost after the 1st page! I was hoping to get what has worked best for people over the years.

Let me ask the question a different way---what brand and weight do you run in your solid lifter 327?? I appreciate your response! Jon

For all of my vehicles, the newest of which is 1991 model year - the least expensive 15W-40 CJ-4 I can find.
Walmart usually has the lowest prices on the national brands, and their house brand, when it's in stock, is less expensive than the national brands.

From the perspective of the "part synthetic" I would not be concerned, at all. In fact, I like full synthetics. I would not use or recommend a straight 40 weight oil for your application. A 10W-40 or a 15W-40 are the way to go, part synthetic, full synthetic, or conventional.
