I am looking at a '57 FI and the unit has a serial number of 11 0 9 and a part number of 7014800. Is this a '57 unit? Thanks.

Re: 1957 FI unit
Mike,
4800 is a late '57 FI unit. What is the car's VIN ? The unit may or may not be appropriate for the car. Does the FI fuel filter input/output line bosses on the filter have round or square bosses?
Have you bought a 1956-7 Judging Manual?

Re: 1957 FI unit
Michael, Check out the FI distributor as well. See if the suffix on the tag reads 905 or 906. A typical 4800 LHP FI car will have a '906 distributor. Single points and hex vacuum advance. Now to wait until you answer Gary's good question.
I really should order the latest 56-57 manual Gary. John- Top

Re: 1957 FI unit
Yes, thanks for all that. It has round bosses it appears, and it is a late build (June estimate). I will buy the manual, I obviously have lots to learnBig Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: 1957 FI unit
Mike,
FI fuel filter was changed from round to square bosses (to hold wrench) approximately VIN 3400
VIN 3200~6339 FK 250HP engines could have 4800 units with 906 distributor
VIN 4800~5584 EL 283HP engines could have 4800 units with 905 distributor
Is it a 4800R unit?
No 4 speed transmission was available until approximately VIN 3467
Helpful for you to post the VIN. You don't have to post the full VIN, it could be posted like 43XX. That would be beneficial for everyone that's trying to help you.

Re: 1957 FI unit
Yes, it is a 906 and a three speed. Don't want to be mysterious, but the owner has not confided the VIN in me just yet. I was working off some hi-res photos and just trying to determine if the FI unit was indeed a 1957, thanks all.Last edited by Michael J.; January 19, 2013, 11:19 AM.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
