1963...Borg Warner to Muncie transmission transition

Good evening all. When Chevrolet transitioned from the Borg Warner tranny to the Muncie in 1963, were both transmissons pretty much the same overall length? Did it necessitate a change in drive shaft length?

    Michael-----

They were exactly the same length and the same driveshaft was used for either. The transmission yokes were different, though, so the driveshaft/yoke assemblies used in PRODUCTION were different but the driveshafts, alone, were the same.

      Joe,

Would the input yoke from the Borg Warner fit and work with the Muncie transmisson?

The early T10 had a smaller flange on the input shaft collar and the early bell housing had a smaller hole then later bell housings.

Bell housing did not change Bruce ....was the same for both trannies. My inquiry was more focused on the transmission lengths as they relate to the drive shaft length.

No. The 1963 T-10 used a 16 spline output shaft and the 1963 Muncie used a 27 spline output.
