Correct Repoduction Expansion Tank Cap 1966 Roadster

I am trying to determine the correct (repoduction of original) expasion tank cap for my 1966 327/350 non-ac roadster. I just purchased the 1966 NCRS Technical Information & Judging Guide and I can't find any reference to the expansion tank or cap. Ecklers list a repoduction cap for 1964L - 1972 with a AC Logo RC-26/15# and Zip lists a repoduction cap for 1964-67 with a AC Logo 307/13#. Any information is appreciated.

Dan, you may find it difficult, if not impossible, to find a reproduction RC 26 radiator cap that will pass NCRS judging.

Original RC26 caps are configured with distinctive "large" ears. directional turn arrows with closed triangled shaped tips and indentations on the edges - all attributes pictured below.

I agree. Probably the closest reproduction is the RC 26 cap from Long Island Corvette Supply. Even so, it is not exact. And if you buy one, I would suggest checking it with a radiator cap presssure tester. The one I purchased did not relieve pressure until 20-25 psig. This was just too high for me and my 45 year old Harrison radiator. So it is sitting on the shelf at this time.

Pete Lindhal may be able to help with a restored original. But they are not inexpensive.

There were several variations of the RC-26 cap. The original RC-26 cap pictured below was attached to an early 1969 Corvette supply tank stamped "3016340" and "68H" (Aug. 1968) that I bought at a swap meet last Fall. It may or may not be correct for correct for other model years.

IMO this configuration is correct for earlier models.

There is a later flat rivet version that is not considered original to 67 and earlier models.

Thanks to all for the information and pics, I'm relatively new to the restoration process - bought my roadster last July. Where can I find an (expensive) refinished original. The one on the car appears to match the pics you sent - can these things be refinished to NCRS standards?

Try Joe Perri from Chicago. I believe he advertises in the Driveline.

                          James,

According to recent postings, I believe that John Pirkle no longer restores expansion tank caps.
