    Mike:

thanks for the assistance. I purchased the "Black Book" and learned that my car was about #6000 off the line in OCtover of '75. Interesting I have the aluminum wheels and the large emblem non-recessed on the rear bumper too. go figure.

Steve. Thanks for the response. I ordered the "Black Book" and learned that my car was approximately #6000 off the line in October of '75. Interesting it has the YJ-8 wheels and the large emblem non recessed rear bumper. I am the third owner, I believe, and will eventually figure it all out.

Thanks again for the prompt information.

        Terry:

Thanks so much for putting the issue in perspective. My car, according to the "Black Book" was manufacturered in October of '75, but it has the later "non recessed" large emblem rear bumper. Perhaps it was damaged and replaced? Hopefully I can track the previous two owners and put the history together. Its my first venture with a Corvette and has been pretty enjoyable because of all the knowledgable assistance I have received on the forum to date.

Thanks again for your thoughtful and thorough reply to my post.

Thanks for the response to my post. I purchased the "Black Book" and learned my car was manufacturered in October of '75 yet it has the Y-J* wheels and a late non recessed large emblem rear end. Must have been replaced. Hopefully I can figure it out as it only had three owners.

          Thanks again!

Go to some of the larger corvette events and you may see other 1976s built around yours -- look at the VIN tag and compare the numbers. If you see more than a couple with the same bumper you can reasonably conclude yours is original and that you have one of those early and late cars I mentioned.

Most of all enjoy the car and the people you meet.
