If it is a 1967 model and a legitimate big block car, then it will have a St Louis body. The only possible exception is for a few cars with an AOS body that was built in late August or the first few days in September.....and many folks do not even accept this.

Re: Side Exhaust on a 67

I put NOS side exhaust on my 67 years ago and I love them, the engine is 327/300 and it does not seem loud to me but I don't go on any trips with the car.

I saved all the tidbits if I ever decide to convert back and if I had it to do over again I would not install them only because the car came from the factory with under car exhaust. My wife does not complain about the noise, she say's they look and sound good but I suspect she would rather listen to the pipes than me talking. :-)

I didn't know that...Was that true for all midyears or only 1967?

George - I knew the factory side exhaust was restrictive and believe I have felt the 'effects' of that restrictive exhaust when running my 66 Coupe down the quarter mile but would be curious as to the percentage of horsepower lost on your dyno experiment between the two systems. Only guessing here but suspect it was in the neighborhood of 10%?

If you like the sound and you like the way they look and you don't car about the deducts, and you don't care about the resale problems which would only encompass NCRS people and you got some earplugs ,GO FOR IT

                Thanks guys.
Pros - I really like the looks and sound.
Cons - N14 not original to my car and are power robbing.

You guys have given me a lot to think about. Thanks

yes. reportedly A.O. could not get it right or consistent

witch bags the If A.O. did paint some and someone brought it too a meet with creditable docs to prove its a real BB. how would a exterior judge judge the stripe if it is not like the stripe St. Louis painted

Maybe the judge would say: NTFP

Re: Side Exhaust on a 67

You can cure the sound by putting N11s in... then all you got left is the looks thing.

I am curious as to how long you have had the car? Buy it new?

If you did not buy it new.... did you buy it BECAUSE it was 99% original?

If you bought it because it was 99% original... did you change your mind about that?

I bet you could trade the car to somebody with a 67/390 coup that has pipes added.... then you might both be happy.

What's a set of unused/new-in-box NOS pipes and covers going for these days?

FWIW: Side pipes on a 67 to me is a very iconic look for that car and hard to resist not doing. The previous owner of my 68 had side pipes installed when I bought the car and it looked awesome! For me, I plan to have the car judged and I am trying to get it back as close to original as possible so they are gone. If I were not going down the path of judging, I'd have them back on in a heartbeat even though they were not an option for 68. Not too concerned with power loss- these cars have plenty to offer for the way they are driven today. good luck with your choice.
