    61 FI Question

I have a weep of fuel comming from the fitting on the FI unit in between the Fuel filter and the FI unit,
Does anyone know where the best place to purchase the fitting as shown here ?
Also is currently is a brass fitting, is this correct for 61 ?
The previous owner has this with teflon tape on it.
What is the best method for new fitting tape ? some sort of sealant.
    Thanks

    Re: 61 FI Question

Teflon tape is the kiss of death for a FI unit. Get rid of it!
The leak is between the two brass fittings?
Replace the brass fitting. I had a similar problem and found one of the threads had a small nick.
Try J DeGregory or paragon or corvette central or any of the usual suspects for a new fitting.
No need to put anything on the threads.

Don't mess around and burn to the ground!

      Thank You

I figured the tape needed to go , and the leak is between the brass fitting and the fi unit.

This is good advice. The Teflon tape can shred, get into the unit and cause all manner of mischief..... causing the needle and seat to not seal.... causing the spill valve (the essential fuel metering device) to not function correctly.

If you absolutely must put something on the pipe threads, use Teflon paste.

However, you should not need any sealer on any threads. They were assembled dry at the factory and, in good condition, will continue to seal dry.

also teflon reduces the friction in the threads and you can over tighten the fitting and maybe splitting the where it threads in.

It is a beautiful Fuelie Pat. I did mention that the teflon tape is taboo.

Still trying to find the coupler looks like 5/16 flair. paragon has one but should it be brass ? and the fuel filter looks like correct one but should it be cadium colored ?
                    Thakns again

Going to put up a question on tires where i am pulling them all apart next week.

I'm not following you. Between the filter and the FI inlet, the adapter is or should be a double male 1/8" pipe threaded fitting. You can get these at any auto parts store.

William, You are correct, this type fuel filter has 5/16 female flair fittings on both inlet & outlet. The fitting is special with 1/8" male pipe threads on one end (for the fuel meter) & a 5/16" fitting that is the same as the flair fitting on a fuel line, (5/16" female flair) for the filter to screw onto. Also it was steel, (not sure if cad plated or not). I have several in my parts cabinet, but I am in Fla. for the cold months. Check with DeGregory he may have correct fittings for you. Stay away from Teflon Tape or Paste, Ask John, he knows about a Loctite "hydraulic sealer" that is great.
