I was just review some stuff and looking for parts for my 60 and came to realize that there is a difference in the two switches. I've looked at pictures, but can't tell what the differences are from pictures.
Can someone explain how they differ?
Thanks,
Don

Don - As Doug pointed out, it's the retaining nut thread. The 1116547 switch (original is embossed 547) for 58-59 has a fine thread and the 1116577 switch (original embossed 577) for 60-62 has a coarse thread. Other than that the casings and the connections on the back look to be identical. I hope they gave the engineer a good bonus for the change. I'm sure it improved performance somehow. Pete
The engineers got me one other time on this restoration. I got my gauge cluster back from paint. Installed all the gauges, put in the car, connect all gauge wiring and lights. Then started to install the controls in the lower housing. The 1960 cig lighter would not fit correctly! That is when I found out that there is a difference between the 59-60 lower gauge cluster housing and the 61-62. someone in the past had installed a 61-62 in my 1960. So I had to purchase a correct cluster housing and get the replacement painted, and reinstall everything.
I could not figure out why the lower housing was changed other than some engineer or design person wanted it different.
