Can someone explain job #s found on tank stickers to me. I was told it starts at "1" and goes up to "500" and then starts at "1" again. Is this correct??? The job # is also written on the passenger footwell (exterior) Are there cases where the two job numbers (on the tank sticker and footwell) are out a couple of numbers from each other??? Thanks in advance.

The job # is also written on the passenger footwell (exterior) Are there cases where the two job numbers (on the tank sticker and footwell) are out a couple of numbers from each other??? I have never seen this. Does it look as if there were major repairs on the car? Meaning parts from different cars were put together to build this car? The Job number was written on the footwell, doors and behind the gas tank.
Thanks in advance.

The number penciled on the tank sticker does not necessarily coordinate with the body panel numbers, but rather "follows" the final 3 digits of the VIN number, in many cases this number is within a couple of digits of the VIN. The penciled number also repeats every 500 numbers.
Example: if your VIN ends in XXXX123 then the penciled number would typically be about XXXX120. If your VIN ends in XXXX623 then the penciled number would again be about XXXX120. [623-123=500 (repeat)]- Top

Re: *** Job numbers on tank stickers ***
I'll assume that by your atar crossflag logo and Stephen's response, you're referring to the C2-early C3 period Corvette. By mid-70s this changed and a portion of the manifest schedule number was used as the three digit job number. By 81, when production was moved to Bowling Green, the job number reconciled with both the schedule number and the VIN last 3-4 digits.Tom Russo

Re: *** Job numbers on tank stickers ***
Now I am confused again. My early model '68 just has "327" (circled) on the tank sticker which I believe is the "job number". My tank sticker does not have two different numbers (last 2 digits of the s/n and job #)written on it like Alan's tank sticker shown above. My late '67 build tank sticker only has one number penciled in (three digits), on the right side about 1/3 of the way down the sticker, and circled.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Just confirmed - "332" found on the body just in front of the gas tank - passenger side. Going to remove interior door panels to try to find numbers on the backside of fiberglass door skins.- Top

Re: *** Job numbers on tank stickers ***
I can't speak to the double numbers.... as these are penciled notes from the assembly lines, I guess anything is possible for the workers to keep things straight.
On my 67 there was only 1 number penciled on the sticker. Other 67's I've seen are similiar.
Below are my tank sticker and body panels. My VIN # ends with "770"; therefore 269+500=769 or 1 digit before the VIN.
There is no reference to the job #416 on the tank sticker. WHY these numbers were penciled I do not know.
I believe the hood also carried the job number but was painted over during blackout. Maybe John Hinckley would have more info on this......- Top

Re: *** Job numbers on tank stickers ***
Thanks Michael for the reply and pics - much appreciated. You were right in regards to the doors - no numbers found. Although I found date codes on the door panels - driver side (Nov.20/1967) and passenger side - (Nov.10/1967) with the name of "Liz" in black crayon - GM assembly worker ???. Pretty cool. I do have "332" on the passenger side kick well but nothing on the transmission hump (as in your photo). I did notice on the passenger side transmission hump what looks like a section cut out and then "glassed" back in. Procedure shown on page H382 of the '68 AIM. M40 TH400 equipped car. Any thoughts on why this was done. Done on the assembly line (???). Thanks for your time.- Top
