No 1968 or 1969 cars had cut pile carpeting. Vinyl or leather seats made no difference.

Yup, all 1968-69 had loop style carpeting regardless of seat material. 1970 was the first year for cut pile carpeting when custom interior trim was ordered. This option also included wood grain inserts on the door panels and console as well as cut pile inserts on the lower portion of the door panels. To be honest, from the very first day I saw it on a brand new 1970, I always disliked cut pile carpet and, for that matter, all the other elements of the custom interior.
I agree with you on the custom interior. There are only a couple options on a C3 that would give me serious pause before I bought a car equipped with it, and the custom interior is one.
I agree with Reba and Russ. My original owner 1970 with the optional interior still has the original leather seat covers and carpet. Liked it so much when my original owner 1968's interior was replaced, I used Al's leather seat covers and installed plush carpeting. That was at least 25 or more years ago. I am planning another Sunday 20 mile road trip enjoying the 68's original engine's L79 performance tomorrow.
is there a reference for the loop vs cut pile with leather interior ordered in 68 69? i ask because The Stingray Guidebook 1969 (Bizzoco) - page 50- states cut pile was first used in 1968 with leather interior.

Roger-
I'm told by other members that cut pile was NOT available on the '68. If you ordered leather, you still got the 80/20 loop carpet.

This just goes to show, once again, that not everything in Bizzoco's book is accurate. Cut pile carpeting was not used for 1968-69 Corvettes, with or without leather seats. 1970 was the first year that ANY PRODUCTION Corvette was equipped with cut pile carpeting. Beginning that year cut pile carpeting was supplied with the "custom interior trim" package. It included leather seats, cut-pile carpeting, custom door panels, and woodgrain console trim.
